Dental Splints

SplintsSplints ή Mouthguards) are custom-made or standardized devices that are applied to the mouth or other parts of the body for various therapeutic or protective purposes. In dentistry, splints play a crucial role in managing a variety of conditions.

Types of Splints in Dentistry:

Bruxism Splints (or Night Guards):

  • These mouthguards are made to be worn during the night and help protect teeth from damage caused by grinding or clenching teeth (bruxism).
  • They can also help reduce temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain associated with bruxism.
  • They are usually made of hard or soft plastic.

Orthodontic Retainers:

  • They are used after orthodontic treatment (e.g., with braces) to maintain teeth in their new position and prevent the recurrence of malocclusion.
  • They can be fixed (bonded to the teeth) or removable (e.g., type Hawley or transparent).

Whitening Trays

  • Specially designed discs used for applying whitening gels to teeth during at-home whitening treatments.

Dental SplintsMouthguards):

  • They are worn during sports activities to protect the teeth, gums, lips, and jaw from injury.
